Kathleen Thomsen

Kathleen Thomsen began working in the philanthropy field professionally in 2003, when she accepted a position as Assistant Director of Development for Legal Aid Service of Broward County responsible for research and writing grants for 9 units.  In 2005 she was promoted to Director of Development of Legal Aid Service of Broward County and Coast to Coast Legal Aid of South Florida assuming the duties of Regional Director of Development for Legal Aid Service of Broward County, Coast to Coast Legal Aid of South Florida and Legal Aid Service of Collier County in 2010.   Kathleen's was responsible for the development, planning and implantation of fundraising strategy and the development of all marketing and media plans and social media campaigns for the agencies.  Under her guidance, the agency's annual fundraiser increased profit by 48%.  She was a member of the Executive Management Team of both agencies and managed a staff of 7.

In June of 2013, Kathleen left Legal Aid and opened Kathleen Thomsen Consulting, Inc.  As President of the consulting firm, Kathleen works with non-profit and profit organizations on strategic planning, board development and events.  Prior to joining Legal Aid, Kathleen was Director of Sales and Marketing for Budget Rent a Car in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for five years, responsible for developing and implementing a sales plan for over 14 offices in Broward County.   Relocating to St. Louis, Missouri in 1990, she was hired at Budget Rent a Car in St. Louis to create a Sales and Marketing Department for their 10 locations.  In 1995 she left that position to move overseas.

Active in both communities she was a founding member, together with DJ Rick Shaw, of KIDS IN CRISIS raising money for KIDS IN DISTRESS and other children's organizations in Dade and Palm Beach Counties, chaired a Fishing Tournament Fundraiser for A CHILD IS MISSING in 2002, served on the Advisory Council of Florida Children's First, the Legislative and Publicity Committee of Broward County Bar Association. She sat on the planning committee of the St. Louis Convention and Visitors Bureau and developed a plan to train taxi, bus drivers and hotel employees on how to build a positive image for the city with visitors.

Kathleen was a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP)/Broward County Chapter from 2003-2010, serving on the Board for 4 years, as Treasurer for two years and co-chairing the Table Honorees Committee for National Philanthropy Day for two years.  Kathleen currently is a volunteer with the United Way of Broward County's Reading Pal Program, a member of Club 2-1-1, Broward County.  An avid Ohio State Buckeye fan she also enjoys reading, tennis and biking.
