Nicole first learned about DDF when her father was unexpectedly diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer in February 2013. After this grave diagnosis, Nicole searched the internet for any encouraging news and found Debbie Zelman's inspiring story, which offered a ray of hope to her and her family during such a difficult time. Unfortunately, after an 11-month battle, Nicole's dad passed away in December 2013. Two months later, Nicole and her mom joined 55 other gastric cancer advocates in Washington, DC as part of DDF's Capitol Hill Advocacy Day to help raise awareness of this deadly and under-researched disease.

"My dad was the most courageous, upbeat and inspiring person in my life. He fought so hard to live, but ran out of treatment options too quickly. Being part of DDF's mission is a way for me to continue his fight, and help pave the way for better outcomes for other stomach cancer patients and their families."

Nicole received her master's degree in international affairs from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs. She is a Senior Program Associate at Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors and lives in New York City.
